Many people who have stopped smoking completely have made several attempts before succeeding. Those who quit smoking cold turkey applied one of the oldest and best-known methods to use.

To quit smoking cold turkey you need to be mentally prepared. Some people think they can just stop and that will power alone will prevent them from starting up again. For many people this simply doesnt work.

Most people also assume that when you quit smoking cold turkey, it means to do so without any smoking cessation aids such as nicotine gum or patches. These will help you if your body starts to go through withdrawal symptoms, which often occur when you stop smoking. When you quit smoking cold turkey, you stop without putting nicotine into your body in any manner.

You can improve your chances for permanently quitting by understanding what the withdrawal symptoms are, and making sure that you address them properly. Drinking plenty of water will help to flush the body out quickly. Keeping your mouth busy and your mind occupied will diminish the thought of lighting up. Maintaining a chart of what is occurring when you have a craving will help you to keep an eye on what is going on with your body. Taking a walk or calling a friend when you feel like smoking will also help to distract you.

Willpower is important. Your success will depend on how badly you want to quit smoking and whether or not you believe that you can do it. Keep in mind that not everyone will have feelings of withdrawal. You may have none or just one or two withdrawal symptoms and they will differ from person to person and from time to time.

When you quit smoking cold turkey, you use the only method that is free, and you can do it at any time. If you are not successful, there are effective treatments available that can more than double your chances of quitting successfully.
